Yen-Chi CHEN
Chen, Yen-Chi (b. 1998, Tainan, Taiwan) has focused since 2023 on the politics of sound as the core of his artistic practice and research. His work examines how sound is shaped within specific contexts and structures, and how it subsequently functions as a tool for regulation and for influencing behavior. Working primarily with installation, video, and found objects, Chen investigates the operations of sound within institutional, technological, and cultural systems. His practice further extends to bodily labor, language, and non-human entities—including animals and insects—in an effort to reveal how power remains latent and operative within everyday sonic environments.
Chen has received several awards, including an Honorable Mention at the 2025 Taipei Art Awards, First Prize at the 2024 Kaohsiung Award, and the 2023 S-AN Aesthetics Award. He has participated in artist residencies at the Fukuoka Asian Art Museum (FAAM) in 2025 and the Hsinchu City Art Site Railway Art Warehouse in 2025 and 2022.
